This coming Wednesday and Thursday, 7 and 8 October 2026, the 4th Forum "New prospects for geothermal development in Poland" will take place in the Geological Museum of the Polish Geological Institute (PIG-PIB) at 4 Rakowiecka Street in Warsaw. The organiser says the event will be held in person only. The detailed programme and a registration form are already available on the event website.
Day one: from reservoirs to heating networks
The first day is titled "From reservoirs to the district heating network. Strategy, technology, energy independence of local governments". The forum will be opened by Prof. Krzysztof Szamałek, director of PIG-PIB, Prof. Krzysztof Galos, undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Climate and Environment and Chief National Geologist, and Józef Matysiak, deputy president of the management board of NFOŚiGW, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
The panel on state strategy and energy security will include, among others, Dr Konrad Wojnarowski, undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Energy, Dr Wiesław Prugar, ORLEN S.A. management board vice-president for upstream, and Prof. Stanisław Nagy, head of the Department of Gas Engineering at AGH. A panel on Poland's geothermal roadmap will be moderated by Dr hab. Beata Kępińska of the Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IGSMiE PAN); its members include Marek Hajto, Dr hab. Anna Sowiżdżał and Prof. Barbara Tomaszewska of AGH. The day ends with a panel on the local-government route to geothermal energy, with participants such as Sławomir Lorek, president of MPEC Konin, Paweł Osiewała, mayor of Sieradz, and Bogusław Regulski, vice-president of the Polish District Heating Chamber of Commerce (Izba Gospodarcza Ciepłownictwo Polskie).
Day two: economics and finance
The second day is devoted to the economics and financing of geothermal investments. The "profitability triangle" panel, which looks at how investors, funders and the regulator interact, brings together among others Wojciech Drzymała, president of PEC Geotermia Podhalańska, Beata Kuś of the NFOŚiGW heating department, Anna Mielcarek, a department director at the Energy Regulatory Office (URE), and Wiesław Podraza of the supervisory board of UOS Drilling. The expert session "Potential and experience" features, among others, Dr hab. Aneta Sapińska-Śliwa of AGH. The final panel covers geothermal energy in agriculture, tourism and large urban systems, with speakers from Chochołowskie Termy and the Mazovian Energy Agency among them. The forum closes with a summary and recommendations on developing geothermal projects.
The previous edition
The 3rd Forum was held on 2 October 2025, also at the Geological Museum. According to PIG-PIB's report, it was organised as part of a state geological survey task run by the institute's Department of Thermal Waters, Medicinal Waters and Brines, and it drew more than 100 participants.
