The "Tomaszów Mazowiecki" thermal water deposit now holds a licence for thermal water extraction. The Marshal of Łódź Voivodeship issued decision GKIII.7422.10.2026.AS on 25 September 2026, and a notice about it appeared the same day in the voivodeship's Public Information Bulletin. The licence holder is Zakład Gospodarki Wodno-Kanalizacyjnej w Tomaszowie Mazowieckim Sp. z o.o., the town's water and sewerage company.

Licence terms

The company will produce thermal water from a single production well, "Tomaszów Mazowiecki GT-1", located on land plot no. 687/12 in cadastral district 0013. The licence is valid until 31 August 2076, and the licensed activity has to start by 30 September 2028. The company had applied for a 50-year term. It filed the application on 18 December 2025 and supplemented it in March and April 2026.

The decision sets exploitable resources at 80.0 m³/h with a drawdown of no more than 190 m. The mining area and mining ground cover 11,090,093 m². Vertically they are limited to the top and base of the Lower Jurassic formations, which GT-1 penetrated between 1437 and 1565 m below ground level. Mining operations are to follow an operations plan approved by the District Mining Office in Kielce. How the produced water may be handled is governed by an environmental decision issued by the Mayor of Tomaszów Mazowiecki on 31 October 2025.

Water parameters

According to the local news site Nasz Tomaszów, water from GT-1 has a temperature of 41.7°C and the well is about 1672 m deep. Before drilling, the town had expected a flow rate of 135 m³/h and a reservoir temperature of 57°C. The site reports that the well was drilled as a project to explore Lower Jurassic thermal waters, worth PLN 12,984,260.30 and fully funded by a grant from NFOŚiGW, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. It also points out that the licence went to the municipal water company rather than to the municipality that ran the drilling project.

Plans for the water

The licence does not authorise construction of any facility that would use the water. Nasz Tomaszów reports that on 30 April 2026 Mayor Marcin Witko presented a concept for thermal pools on the Błonia grounds, split into two stages: outdoor pools first, then a building. The first stage would be ready for the 2028 summer holidays. An earlier project, "Termy Niebieskie Źródła", estimated in 2024 at around PLN 91.3 million, did not then win the support in the town council needed to enter it in the long-term financial forecast. The PLN 30 million granted in 2023 from the Polski Ład programme for the first stage of the spa was later redirected to a sports complex on Nowowiejska Street.
